Protecting data is everyone’s responsibility.

Cybersecurity encompasses the technical and behavioural measures adopted to protect data, devices, and systems from digital threats such as theft, unauthorised access, or cyberattacks.

In a university environment, where personal, academic, and administrative information circulates, data protection is essential.

Every user – students, academic staff and TA staff – can actively contribute to the security of the university system by:

  • Using secure passwords
  • Avoiding clicking on suspicious links
  • Regularly updating devices and software
  • Recognising phishing attempts or online scams

The University of Trieste promotes a culture of cybersecurity through:

  • Prevention and support tools
  • Training and awareness-raising
  • Constantly updated guidelines

An informed and aware community is the best defence against digital risks.

Data Breach procedure

In the event of a suspected or confirmed personal data breach, it is essential to follow the established procedure to ensure prompt and effective incident management.

  1. Promptly notify the Cybersecurity Team:

    +39 040 558 3331

It is crucial to immediately inform the University Cybersecurity Team as soon as a personal data breach is detected or suspected.

  2. Complete and submit the report:
    • Use Annex A – Critical security event reporting form (ITA only).
Fill in the form carefully with all required information to enable a detailed analysis of the incident
    • Send the completed form via email to the Cybersecurity Team at the address indicated above

  3. Cooperate with the Cybersecurity Team:
    • Provide further details or documentation related to the incident if requested.
    • Follow the guidance provided by the team to mitigate the effects of the breach and prevent future incidents.

Remember: The University Regulation on personal data protection includes a Procedure for the management of Data Breaches, which all stakeholders are required to follow in the event of a confirmed or suspected data breach.
