About

The Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC) of the University of Trieste is a centre dedicated to teaching innovation and the professional development of teaching and research staff, with the aim of improving their teaching practices.

Included among the objectives of the 2023-2026 Strategic Plan and formally launched at the end of 2024, it carries out its activities with a particular focus on Faculty Development, that is, the structured set of actions aimed at supporting the professional growth of teaching staff:

  • Training to innovate teaching practices and make them more effective and inclusive, also in light of changes in the student population or the opportunities offered by digitalisation.
  • Research on teaching innovation and experimentation, also in collaboration with national and international working groups.
  • The development of new physical and digital learning environments.

In addition to these areas, there are also training activities aimed at other university personnel (student tutors, teaching tutors, and PhD candidates) or secondary school teachers, also with a view to ensuring continuity between secondary and university studies.

What we do

The main objective of the Teaching and Learning Centre is to promote and support the professional development of research and teaching staff, including school institutions, through training initiatives on teaching methodologies.

Specifically, the activities of the TLC are aimed at:

  • Establishing and delivering training programmes for teaching, research, and technical-administrative staff involved in teaching activities, as well as for PhD candidates and those serving as teaching tutors.
  • Setting up continuous training and refresher programmes for teaching staff at schools of all levels.
  • Promoting training and teaching innovation programmes, also in collaboration with the Human Resources Area and the ICT Services Area of the University, in line with the strategic priorities of the University of Trieste.
  • Promoting training activities on cross-disciplinary skills for teaching staff, PhD candidates, and those serving as teaching tutors.
  • Providing assessment and certification services for skills, also within a lifelong learning perspective.
  • Designing and implementing research actions in the field of university didactics and teacher training
  • Constructing and participating in national and international research networks on the topics of university didactics and teacher training
