The Strategic Plan of the University of Trieste is the programming document that defines the mission, directions, and objectives of the University. It represents an essential tool for outlining development guidelines for the medium to long term, in accordance with ministerial guidelines and resource planning.

The strategic vision and synthesis of objectives concern all sectors of the University of Trieste, including that of Public and Social Engagement - Third Mission, an area of potential development not only for the purposes of national evaluation campaigns to which Universities are subjected but also to strengthen the civic engagement of technical-administrative and academic staff in the process of cultural and academic growth of the territory.

Available from July 2025 on the CRUI website – Conference of Italian University Rectors – a publication that traces the stages of growth and enhancement at national level of the activities of the so-called “third mission” of universities. The text, entitled "The role of universities in the progress of society. From the Third Mission to the Valorization of Knowledge," is the result of the collaboration of a CRUI working group coordinated by Rector Riccardo Pietrabissa, with the participation of representatives from universities and the main networks active in the areas of knowledge valorization and public engagement (APEnet, Netval, RUS). The publication covers a variety of topics and types of intervention, with food for thought and methodological proposals. It also includes in-depth analyses of specific regulations and international projects involving the relevant ministries in the various participating countries. The contributions collected outline a strategic path for the conception, implementation, and institutional enhancement of the wide range of activities through which universities make their role in society and for society increasingly visible and recognizable.
