The Italian tax code (codice fiscale or CF) is an alphanumeric code necessary to uniquely identify people with a permanent address (residenza) in Italy. You need an Italian tax code in order to enrol and interact with other Italian public administrations and bodies

You can request it to the Italian Revenue Agency (Agenzia delle Entrate) by presenting a valid ID document (non-EU citizens need a passport with visa or a residence permit). You can also request your tax code from the relevant Italian Embassy abroad.
