For the academic year 2025-2026, official entry to the integrated master’s degrees in Medicine and Surgery, and Dentistry and Dental Prosthodontics will be confirmed after a filter semester (semestre filtro) with no competitive admission (i.e., students will not have to pass an entry exam to enrol, as was the case in the past). Attendance of this semester is mandatory, and enrolled students will have to pass exams in 3 taught courses with a value of 6 credits (CFU/ECTS) each:

  • Chemistry and fundamentals of biochemistry
  • Physics
  • Biology

At the University of Trieste, learning activities during this filter semester will take place in person.

Exams for these 3 taught courses will be held on:

  • 20 November 2025
  • 10 December 2025

The exam results will be used to create a national ranking for admission to the degree courses Medicine and Surgery, and Dentistry and Dental Prosthodontics. Students who do not place high enough on the national ranking for admission to these courses, will nonetheless be eligible for entry to a related back-up degree course selected during the enrolment process. Entry to related back-up courses is dependent on the number of places available and national ranking.

How to enrol to the filter semester

  1. Submit your application on the Universitaly portal from 10:00 (CET), 23rd June 2025 – 17:00 (CET), 25th June 2025

Related degree courses offered by UniTS

After you have applied on the Universitaly portal, wait at least 15 minutes before continuing to enrolment.

Because the filter semester grants access to a nationally competitive course, you must submit two separate applications through UniTS: an application to the national competition itself and a separate enrolment application.

  • First, submit your application for the national competition in online Student Academic Services (Esse3). The application to this competition will appear under ‘filter semester’. Submit your application from 10:00 (CET), 2nd July 2025 to 13:00 (CET) 28th July 2025.

  • Then, after at least 5 minutes, submit your enrolment application for the filter semester from 2nd July 2025 at 10:00 (CET) to 4th August 2025 at 13:00 (CET).

  • Detailed instructions on how to enrol in the filter semester via the Online Student Service (Esse3) are published on the degree programme pages for Medicine and Surgery and Dentistry and Dental Prosthodontics.

Teaching

Lectures for the filter semester will take place at the Piazzale Europa Campus in two periods with different timetables depending on logistical needs:

  • 1st September - 19th September
  • 22nd September - 5th November

Detailed timetables for each period will be available by 4th August 2025 on the dedicated University website.

Lectures will take place in person in the Main Hall (Aula Magna) of Building H3 and in adjoining rooms. Attendance is strongly recommended for the acquisition of skills, although remote participation will also be guaranteed. Recordings of the lectures will also be made available as support material. However, the recordings are not intended as a substitute for the lectures.

The organisation of the lectures will be further defined once applications on Universitaly are closed.
