The course covers the topics listed in Annex V of Legislative Decree 26/2014 on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes and is a training event according to Article 2, paragraph 1, letter j) of Ministerial Decree 228/2021. The course provides face-to-face and practical training activities for those performing the functions mentioned in Article 23, paragraph 2 of Legislative Decree 26/2014 on the subjects of Basic and Specific Modules 1, 2, 3.1, 3.2, 4, 5, 6.1 and 6.2, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 of Ministerial Decree 228/2021.

The course has a duration of: 1) for function a), i.e., for operators performing in vivo procedures (researchers): 22 hours of teaching (+2 hours for the final test); 2) for function b), i.e., for operators involved in the design of procedures and projects (project leaders): 24 hours of teaching (+2 hours for the final test); 3) for function c), i.e., for operators dedicated to the care of animals (animal care technicians): 18 hours of teaching (+2 hours for the final test); 4) for function d), i.e., for operators performing euthanasia techniques (researchers and animal care technicians): 20 hours of teaching activities (+2 hours for the final test). 

The course is intended for operators of facilities authorized under Article 20, paragraph 2 of Legislative Decree no. 26/2014, or for all professional figures involved in the breeding and use of animals for scientific purposes. The knowledge and skills acquired at the end of the course constitute the minimum training necessary to perform one of the functions referred to in letters a), b), c), and d) of paragraph 2 of Article 23 of Legislative Decree 26/2014. The acquired competencies, including elements of theoretical and practical training, are specific for each function and specific for the bred species.

  • Applicants admitted to the Basic Training Course for the Protection of Animals Used in Scientific Research for Mus musculus or Rattus norvegicus must upload the document “Modulo integrativo per l' immatricolazione”.
  • Applicants admitted to the Qualification Internship must upload the document “Modulo integrativo tirocinio abilitante”.
