Advanced CourseSocial Sciences and HumanitiesDuration: 9 monthsCampus: TriesteLanguage: ItalianDepartment: Legal, Language, Interpreting and Translation StudiesFor admission and enrollment procedures, please refer to the Call for Applications Submit your application The course is intended for those who carry out or wish to carry out tasks related to the drafting and translation of legal and administrative texts in Italian and Slovenian. The course aims to expand and strengthen the skills of the participants, who by the end of it will have increased their knowledge of the legal systems of Italy and Slovenia, linguistic analysis of Italian and Slovenian, and translation theory and practice as a whole, with specific reference to the most common types of legal texts produced within the activities of the offices of the FVG entities involved.Following the establishment in 2017 and operational status in 2018 of the Central Office for the Slovenian Language and the Network for Slovenian in the FVG Public Administration (which brings together the 32 municipalities referred to in DPR 12/9/2007, the healthcare companies Asugi and Asufc, the regional agency Arpa, and the Venezia Giulia Chamber of Commerce), a severe shortage of qualified personnel in the translation services of these entities has been identified. These services are operational at the aforementioned entities in accordance with the provisions of the regulations protecting the Slovenian language in the FVG Region, which owes its "specialty" precisely to the multilingualism that characterizes its territory. Therefore, the aim is to address this gap by initiating a specialization course that will consolidate the existing knowledge of potential candidates.Training objectivesFor the translation part: to provide participants with the theoretical foundations of translation studies as a whole, including the use of information technology and the practice of post-editing. In particular, these basic skills will be applied to legal texts and terminology, with specific reference to the most frequent areas in the practice of the offices of the entities involved. For the linguistic part: to provide participants with the theoretical foundations of linguistic analysis and the drafting of texts in Italian and Slovenian, with specific reference to text genres and lexical and morphosyntactic resources that particularly characterize legal texts, focusing specifically on the types most frequently used in the practice of the offices of the entities involved. For the legal part: to provide participants with an overview, also from a comparative perspective, of the Italian and Slovenian legal systems, with particular reference to the areas of their respective legal systems most frequently encountered in the practice of the offices of the entities involved.
