On Tuesday, 23 April 2024, from 15:00 to 18:00, at the Bachelet Hall, Building A (first floor, left wing) of Piazzale Europa campus, a roundtable on housing will be held entitled ‘Is affordable rent possible? Discussing the housing crisis in Trieste’.

This roundtable will offer a first meeting between local stakeholders and is organised within the framework of an important research project of relevant national interest (PRIN): ‘UAH! Unconventional and Affordable Housing’.

The project is financed by the Ministry of Education and Research with NRRP funds and involves the Department of Engineering and Architecture (DIA) at the University of Trieste, the Milan Polytechnic and the Bari Polytechnic.

The aim of the roundtable is to initiate a dialogue which will identify possible trajectories for policies and projects which respond to the increasingly pressing demand for affordable rental housing in an innovative way.

With a focus on the Trieste, the discussion will explore a number of themes and issues:

‣ Are there real estate assets (public and private) that can be made available to enhance the supply of affordable and social rented housing? This includes assets that, due to lack of maintenance, are currently unused and vacant.

‣ What are the obstacles to the use of these assets for accessible and affordable rentals? What conditions and instruments can be put in place to respond to growing housing crisis?

‣ How can management procedures (from maintenance to renting) be used to ensure the economic sustainability of innovative and unconventional projects?

Organised by: PRIN research group UAH!
