Research 

This role is strategic for the University’s development, with the aim of strengthening scientific competitiveness, fostering the production of quality knowledge and ensuring up-to-date teaching, in line with European and international standards. The Vice-Rector for Research supports basic and applied research, encourages interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaboration, and contributes to enhancing the social, cultural and economic impact of scientific activities, in close collaboration and synergy with the other vice-rectors and Rector’s delegates.

The Vice-Rector for Research:

  • promotes and coordinates research activities in line with the objectives defined by the University's strategic planning.
  • promotes the evaluation of research quality, the development of competitive projects, both individually and in collaboration with other national and international universities and public bodies. They also encourage the exploitation of the interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary aspects of research, with a view to fostering interaction between research areas
  • stimulates the development of the University’s infrastructure, laboratories, libraries and research equipment, with a focus on digital infrastructures and shared laboratories in coordination with the Vice-Rector for the Digital Transformation. They also promote the internationalization of research, in coordination with the Rector's Delegate for International Relations and Mobility.
  • promotes open science practices in coordination with the Vice-Rector for the Digital Transformation, alongside initiatives aimed at improving the link between research and educational activities, in coordination with the Vice-Rector for Education.
  • contributes to the exploitation and dissemination of research results, in coordination with the relevant vice-rectors and Rector's delegates. They maintain relations with public and private research institutions.
  • ensures the link between research and dissemination activities, in close coordination with the Vice-Rector for Industrial and Community Relations and the Vice-Rector for Public Engagement.
  • contributes to ensuring research training through doctorates and higher apprenticeships, in coordination with the Vice-Rector for Education and the Rector's Delegate for Doctorates.
  • contributes to the development of policies for the recruitment and enhancement of young researchers, fostering transparent and sustainable career paths, as well as supporting mentoring and advanced training programmes.

Education

The Vice-Rector for Education is responsible for coordinating the regulation, design, updating and delivery of the courses on offer at the University, working particularly in relation to bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and related proposals on the right to education. They also sit as member of the UniTS Quality Assurance Authority and work in collaboration with other vice-rectors and Rector’s delegates for issues of common interest.

The Vice-Rector for Education: 

  • supports the governance in developing strategies and policies related to bachelor’s and master’s degree courses and works towards the objectives of the University Strategic Plan.
  • coordinates the creation of new degree courses and encourages the updating of existing courses, taking into account the context, the needs of stakeholders and the University’s international profile.
  • promotes the quality of a student-centred teaching.
  • proposes the delineation and revision of the criteria used for monitoring the sustainability of the courses on offer.
  • contributes to the consistent, effective and accessible communication of the University’s course catalogue.
  • supports the academic bodies in the internal evaluation and approval of education programmes.
  • coordinates the aspects of general interest relating to education within vocational and advanced masters, specialist training courses and specialisation schools.
  • oversees the application of national legislation and the updating and revision of UniTS regulations and guidelines on education.
  • ensures that the UniTS departments work with central administration on the schedules and procedures for the planning and management of the courses on offer. They also make sure that the relevant databases and websites are updated.
  • coordinates the implementation and integration of the platforms used to manage educational activities.
  • drives the optimisation and digitalisation of students’ admission procedures and academic records.
  • coordinates ongoing tutoring and curricular internship activities.
  • encourages professional forms of extracurricular education, including lifelong learning.
  • supports the innovation of teaching methods.
  • supports UniTS governance in political analysis and decisions related to the right to education with particular reference to student fees.
  • chairs the University's Education Committee.

Public Engagement

The Vice-Rector for Public Engagement is responsible for promoting projects that enhance the University’s positive contribution to society through dialogue and collaboration with the productive, cultural and social bodies present in the region. This contribution stems from a shared culture of public and social engagement based on the active collaboration of academic staff, technical and administrative staff, librarians and students.

The Vice-Rector for Public Engagement:

  • supports UniTS governance in defining the University’s strategic lines for public engagement.
  • represents the University in networks and associations fostering knowledge, such as APEnet (the Italian association of universities and research institutions for public engagement), and works with the vice-rectors and Rector’s delegates representing the University within Netval, the Network of universities for sustainable development (RUS) and the Italian university network for lifelong learning (RUIAP).
  • represents the University in national discussions on the valorisation of knowledge and research.
  • works in synergy with the Vice-Rector for Research and the Vice-Rector for Industrial and Community Relations as well as with the Rector's Delegate for Technology Transfer and Research Partners, and the Rector’s Delegate for Development Cooperation in order to enhance the research and innovation activities and the impact they can have on society and for society. They may also work with all those who, under the Rector’s authority, carry out actions and activities that fall within the public and social commitment of the University, such as the realisation of the University Prison Programme.
  • stimulates the growth of the culture of public and social engagement at the University through targeted training initiatives, particularly involving young researchers and students.
  • defines systems for the identification and monitoring of public and social engagement activities, in synergy with the competent units.
  • promotes public and social engagement activities through competitive internal calls and through participation in external calls.
  • promotes a system of evaluation of public and social engagement activities capable of stimulating and enhancing the potential of all university components.
  • acts as a contact point for the University Library Services.

Industrial and Community Relations

The Vice-Rector for Industrial and Community Relations is responsible for the organisation, management and development of the relation network between the University and the business system, whether public or private, local or global. More generally, they are responsible for identifying and actively promoting mutually satisfactory opportunities for collaboration between the business system and the University.

The Vice-Rector for Industrial and Community Relations:

  • organises, manages and increases current contacts between the University and relevant public and private enterprises, proposing new collaborative initiatives.
  • facilitates companies’ search for talent and the integration of both students and graduates into companies.
  • strengthens the University’s image within the relevant business system.
  • supports the organisation and management of events through which the University interfaces with the business system (e.g. Job UniTS).
  • simplifies internal organisation processes in order to improve the efficiency of the various offices in charge of business management and promotion of academic entrepreneurship, ensuring an effective collaboration between them.
  • promotes professional growth and the development of staff dedicated to business relationship management.
  • works in synergy with the vice-rectors for Research, Public Engagement, Education and the Rector's Delegate for Technology Transfer and Research Partners for a better and more effective integration of relations with the public and private business system as well as with research, education and public and social engagement activities.
  • encourages the active involvement of the entire university community on the issues of academic entrepreneurship and collaboration with the business system, both generally and through dedicated projects and activities.
  • cares for and consolidates relations with the University alumni network.
  • fosters collaboration with business associations, trade unions, professional associations, production clusters and all other actors in the local economic sector.

Roberta Nunin

HR, Trade Unions and Equal Opportunities

The Vice-Rector for HR, Trade Unions and Equal Opportunities supports the governance in their interactions with HR management and trade unions.  They focus particularly on collective bargaining and welfare promotion, in line with the objectives defined by the University’s Strategic Plan and in full compliance with the regulatory responsibilities of the Director General. They also promote University policies on equal opportunities and anti-discrimination, in synergy with the Equal Opportunities Committee.

The Vice-Rector for HR, Trade Unions and Equal Opportunities:

  • supports the governance in the definition of HR organisation and management policies and merit enhancement.
  • supports the governance in establishing guidelines for the management of relations with trade unions. They strive to ensure that trade union relations are characterised by a transparent, fair and constructive dialogue, conscious participation, and that interactions are oriented to the recognition of mutual rights and duties and the prevention and resolution of any possible conflict.
  • participates in University collective bargaining and supports the development of organisational models and innovative welfare policies.
  • is a member of the University inspection team on incompatibility and the overlapping of posts.
  • supports the Rector's Delegate for General and Legal Affairs in the definition of specific initiatives aimed at the prevention and settlement of possible labour law disputes with academic, and technical and administrative staff.
  • supports the adoption of policies and actions aimed at promoting equal opportunities at the University as well as preventing and fighting against all forms of discrimination, both individually and through supporting the design of specific positive actions in synergy with the Equal Opportunities Committee.
  • participates in the working group for the drafting of the University Gender Equality Plan (GEP).
  • supports all initiatives aimed at promoting work-related well-being, in close coordination with the Rector's Delegate for Working Environment, Health and Safety, with the aim of consolidating a climate of trust, respect and accountability in the achievement of UniTS objectives.

Digital Transformation

The Vice-Rector for the Digital Transformation has the task of designing and implementing UniTS digital policies in an integrated way, based on internal processes as well as on teaching, research and interaction with the region and the productive sector. Digital transformation is the deep integration of technology and processes. It revolves around people and their well-being and uses tools such as automation and artificial intelligence (AI) to improve the quality of activities and response times at the University.

The Vice-Rector for the Digital Transformation:

  • drives the mapping and digitalisation of administrative processes, in synergy with the Rector's Delegate for Administrative Streamlining, by implementing flexible and scalable technology solutions, automating work flows as much as possible and by integrating AI solutions.
  • promotes the development of a ‘smart’ campus to simplify access to university services, in particular for the student community.
  • promotes the introduction of professional AI systems with human-in-the-loop audits to improve internal communication, ensuring efficiency, consistency and regulatory compliance.
  • drives the definition of a strategic AI Plan that integrates technological, ethical and legislative aspects, and promotes a responsible use of AI through a multi-disciplinary dialogue.
  • strengthens cybersecurity and operational control over the University’s networks and updates its internal rules.
  • promotes internal investments to enhance IT infrastructure and computing resources while also optimizing their operational management.
  • develops an ecosystem for AI and digital technologies in synergy with the region, including the creation of a physical hub for interdisciplinary projects and collaborations between universities, companies and institutions.
  • supports the Vice-Rector for Industrial and Community Relations in encouraging public-private collaborations on digital issues.
  • supports the Rector's Delegate for Data Reporting in the effective management of data with appropriate digital media.
  • follows the creation of the Data Science & Artificial Intelligence Foundation and the AgorAI innovation Hub.
  • supports the integration of coding, AI and personal data protection in students’ study programmes, both individually and in collaboration with the Vice-Rector for Education, promoting the spread of digital education throughout the university community.
  • supports the development of the Digital Education Hub (DEH) for flipped and e-learning as well as the application of Learning Analytics and AI tools to improve the course design and the learning experience of students, both individually and in collaboration with the Rector's Delegate for Innovative Education.
  • coordinates the definition and implementation of strategic objectives together with the ICT Division Manager.

Adriano Venudo

Building Management

The Vice-Rector for Building Management coordinates strategies and initiates actions for the enhancement and development of the University’s buildings and open spaces. This role integrates the management of large strategic projects with widespread micro-interventions, all in dialogue with the city and areas where UniTS satellite campuses are located. The aim is to build a welcoming, sustainable and inclusive university environment, with education, research, social interaction and daily well-being at its centre.

The Vice-Rector for Building Management:

  • coordinates the University’s strategic building plan in synergy with the governance, applying the well-known ‘S, M, L, XL Model’ as the key to reading and guiding transformations. This entails working from strategic micro-interventions (social spaces, ‘informal’ equipment and spaces, green and open space) to intermediate interventions (renovations, reuse, divestiture and functional improvements), up to major projects in the various satellite campuses of the University.
  • contributes to the drafting of the University Strategic Plan.
  • promotes a university model as a habitat, integrating study spaces with social spaces, meeting places and places for daily well-being.
  • develops and monitors the three-year plan for public building works, maintenance and purchases/divestitures, ensuring the functionality, security and decoration of the spaces.
  • works in conjunction with other members of the Rector’s staff on sustainability, waste and mobility management, management/use of educational spaces, communication for usability, quality and identifiability of spaces, design and management of University green areas, student well-being, inclusion and safety.
  • promotes dialogue with local and regional authorities, public and private bodies regarding student housing and the spatial-functional integration of the various University satellite campuses and buildings.
  • works to remove architectural barriers and implement accessibility as well as self-monitoring processes as a basic standard, in synergy with other members of the Rector’s staff.
  • integrates all building policies/strategies in collaboration with the Rector's Delegate for Sustainability and Energy Transition, through green projects, smart campuses and efficient resource management.
  • develops strategies for an approach that balances participation actions with managerial activities, actively involving the University community (roundtables, commissions, consultations and focus groups) and managing these initiatives according to time, priorities and resources.
  • strengthens the way in which the University contributes to the surrounding urban fabric, recognising not only the infrastructural function of architecture and open space, but also their ability to represent cultural elements and connect the University with the cities in which it is present, enhancing the various satellite campuses and contributing to the urban landscape as a common good.

Quality

The Vice-Rector for Quality is responsible for the promotion and development of the University's strategy for the continuous improvement of institutional activities and services, teaching, research, and public and social engagement. This strategy sets out to achieve its objectives through the implementation of the Quality Assurance System, which, in turn, aims to promote the active participation of the university community and various stakeholders.

The Vice-Rector for Quality:

  • supports the governance in defining the University’s strategic guidelines on quality issues, in synergy with the other vice-rectors and Rector’s delegates for all aspects of common interest.
  • chairs the University’s Quality Assurance Authority to define and monitor the implementation of Quality Assurance (QA) processes for teaching, research as well as for public and social in line with the University governing body guidelines, the Italian National Agency for the Evaluation of the University and Research Systems (ANVUR) guidelines and Units Quality Assurance System (QAS) guidelines.
  • promotes the preparation, adoption and use of analysis and evaluation tools for the regular review of the departmental activities as well as undergraduate and post-graduate degree courses.
  • encourages the active participation of students, academic staff, and technical and administrative staff in self-assessment and evaluation processes aimed at continuous improvement, including by raising awareness of a more conscious adherence to opinion surveys.
  • promotes the definition and dissemination of guidelines and documentation to facilitate methodological and operational self-assessment and evaluation processes.
  • disseminates and promotes a culture of quality through information, communication and education activities to support all actors involved in the implementation of QA processes within departments, teacher-student committees, undergraduate and post-graduate courses.
  • promotes a systematic monitoring of the effectiveness of the QA system, from which appropriate proposals for improvement are derived. They also verify the effectiveness and appropriateness of these proposals and forward the results to the University Evaluation Unit and governance.

The Rector's Delegate for Doctorates supports the University governance in developing the strategies on doctorates. They coordinate the monitoring, development and improvement of all doctorates on offer at UniTS or offered in agreement with other universities, with particular reference to research activities and the public and social impact of PhD students.

  • promotes the development of quality teaching for PhD students in agreement with the Vice-Rector for Education.
  • develops public and social engagement activities organised by PhD students in synergy with the Vice-Rector for Public Engagement.
  • is responsible for monitoring and improving the quality of PhD courses in collaboration with the Vice-Rector for Quality.
  • increases the relations with research institutions and businesses for the support of doctorates in synergy with the Vice-Rector for Industrial and Community Relations and with the Rector's Delegate for Technology Transfer and Research Partners.
  • promotes internationalisation opportunities for PhD students, both individually and in synergy with the Rector's Delegate for International Relations and Mobility.
  • organises events dedicated to PhD students, from the PhD Welcome Day to the PhD graduation ceremony.
  • maintains and consolidates relations with other universities for the development of doctorates.
  • works closely with the Doctoral Office to support PhD students in their academic life.
  • develops and maintains the public image of doctorates in collaboration with the University’s ICT Division, the Communication and External Relations Unit, and the Press Office.

Technology Transfer and Research Partners

The Rector's Delegate for Technology Transfer and Research Partners uses innovations to facilitate knowledge and technology transfer from the University’s basic research to applied research and industry, including through the support of spin-offs, protecting UniTS intellectual property where necessary. They are responsible for cultivating useful relationships between the University and local research institutions (within the Trieste system) as well as research centres at the national and international level.

The Rector’s Delegate for Technology Transfer and Research Partners:

  • supports the governance in defining polices on technology transfer, intellectual property protection, business relations and support for spin-offs.
  • supports the governance in the definition of the University’s strategies concerning relations with research institutions at the local (Trieste System), national and international level.
  • works in synergy with the Vice-Rector for Research and the Vice-Rector for Industrial and Community Relations, as well as with the governance, to pursue the objectives above.
  • supports the activities of the Office for Technology Transfer and Partnerships.
  • promotes inclusive technology transfer and educational pathways for students, in synergy with the Office for Technology Transfer and Partnerships.
  • promotes and supports relations with local research bodies in order to foster scientific collaboration, planning and student access to training opportunities.
  • supports the supply-demand match process in relations with institutions and companies, identifying the skills within the University that may be of interest for projects on specific issues.
  • coordinates the University Spin-off Committee.
  • promotes the involvement of departmental delegates in technology transfer activities and initiatives, and, more generally, raises University staff’s awareness of these activities.
  • optimises and streamlines the conclusion of University’s conventions with institutions and companies.
  • fosters cooperation with local public and private bodies, businesses, and institutions, with the aim of enhancing the impact of technology transfer and maximising the effectiveness of collaborations from a system perspective.

Innovative Education

The Rector's Delegate for Innovative Education is responsible for facilitating and promoting innovative educational approaches at the University, consistent with the aims of the various degree courses and the expected learning outcomes. Some of these initiatives may make use of information technologies and digital resources. The initiatives are primarily aimed at teaching staff and seek to interpret and respond to their training needs with updated teaching methods, however, these initiatives will equally benefit the student community by ensuring they are offered flexible and effective learning methods. The Delegate is also Head of the University's Teaching and Learning Centre.

The Rector’s Delegate for Innovative Education:

  • organises regular teaching training activities for academic staff through the University’s Teaching and Learning Centre. Teacher training may also be implemented through targeted actions (new hires, stem disciplines, humanities, health sector, etc.).
  • promotes cognitive surveys and needs analyses of teaching methods, both to better plan training activities for academic staff and to enhance good practices already in place in the various departments.
  • provides advice and support to individual teachers and teaching facilities to improve the effectiveness of the teaching and learning process, taking into account the specific characteristics of the degree courses and the students.
  • participates in national and international working groups and research dedicated to the organisation of T&L centres and to innovation in university teaching.
  • promotes the enhancement of digital assets and skills to expand the package of learning activities that can be used remotely and asynchronously, in synergy with the IT Services, Education and Multimedia Branch.
  • works in synergy with the Vice-Rectors for Education and for Building Management to plan specific measures to adapt the UniTS course catalogue and classrooms for encouraging innovation in education.

Prospective Student Policies

The Rector's Delegate for Prospective Student Policies is responsible for the activities dedicated to prospective students. These activities both involve students and generate interest in the University's courses with the ultimate aim of making students aware of the choices affecting their educational and vocational path, and also at preventing student dropout. The University considers guiding prospective students a strategic and systemic action and aims to complete this action through concrete and shared activities, at national and international level, in synergy with the academic community and with the region.

The Rector’s Delegate for Prospective Student Policies:

  • supports the governance in defining the University’s policies for prospective students, transforming them into operational and monitoring actions. This may be done both at a general level and in relation to current needs.
  • maintains and consolidates relations within the Conference of Italian University Rectors (CRUI) and the Italian society for guiding prospective students (SIO). They coordinate the University’s participation in the relevant national thematic groups on student guidance and encourages the sharing of good practices.
  • coordinates the programmes under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) -Mission 4 (Education and Research), Component 1 (strengthening the provision of education services: from crèches to universities), Investment 1.6 (active guidance in the school-university transition). M4C1I1.6 is funded by the European Union through NextGenerationEU.
  • coordinates the transversal skills and orientation activities (PCTO – Summer Learning Modules).
  • strengthens relationships with key figures in secondary education institutions and external stakeholders (teachers involved with outreach, school directors, regional career guidance centres, the regional education authority) for the implementation of the University’s outreach and prospective student policies.
  • works in close collaboration with the governance and with the Vice-Rector for Education and the Rector’s delegates for Innovative Education, and for International Relations and Mobility towards the integrated and effective management of the institutional website and other channels used for communication with prospective students, schools, teachers, families and external stakeholders.
  • designs and implements student guidance activities and training pathways for teachers involved in university outreach in secondary schools.
  • evaluates opportunities for participation in student recruitment fairs at national and international level in accordance with the governance, ensuring a consistent and competitive image of the University.
  • assesses and defines communication strategies for prospective students via the website, information materials, social media, and functional arrangements for participation in student recruitment fairs, in accordance with the governance.
  • makes the governance aware of any critical points and weaknesses reported to the Public Relations Office (URP) and activates any related improvement processes.

International Relations and Mobility

The Rector's Delegate for International Relations and Mobility is responsible for developing the University’s international strategy. This strategy is based on concrete and participatory actions and includes all activities aimed at developing the process of internationalisation of the University. More specifically within this category, the Delegate co-ordinates networking activities designed to facilitate the creation and management of international agreements as well as the international mobility of students, academic staff, and technical and administrative staff.

The Rector’s Delegate for International Relations and Mobility:

  • supports UniTS governance in defining the University’s strategy on internationalisation.
  • guides and enhances the University’s international mobility activities, through the Erasmus+ programme, available to students, academic staff, and technical and administrative staff.
  • encourages and promotes the development and use of Short-term Programmes and Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP).
  • fosters and supports the internationalisation of student curriculums through the Erasmus Traineeship programme and other initiatives aimed at strengthening the internationalisation of student careers.
  • promotes the offer of double and joint degrees.
  • strengthens networking and international communication, both individually and with the support of the University Language Centre (CLA).
  • guides and coordinates the University's Visiting Professor (VP) and Visiting Researcher (VR) programmes.
  • encourages and coordinates the implementation of international collaboration agreements, through the conclusion or renewal of memorandums of understanding (MoU) and executive protocols (PE) with foreign universities.
  • maintains and consolidates relations with university alliances and networks which the University is a member of, in synergy with the Rector's Delegate for Development Cooperation and the point of contact for the Transform4Europe (T4EU) Project.
  • helps to strengthen the University's Welcome Office, to welcome foreign students and teachers.

Roberta Altin

Development Cooperation

The Rector's Delegate for Development Cooperation promotes and enhances research, education and exchange projects both with emerging countries and at local level, taking an interdisciplinary approach to addressing global imbalances and proposing sustainable solutions. The University of Trieste is an institution with a long tradition of cosmopolitan multilingualism, located in a city that has always been at a migratory crossroad. As such, the University promotes all forms of cooperation that foster education, knowledge, development and the protection of international human rights.

The Rector's Delegate for Development Cooperation:

  • supports the governance in defining the University’s strategic lines on cooperation and development issues, focusing on priority areas for intervention and exchange.
  • promotes academic cooperation with emerging countries as a tool for co-development, exchange and mutual scientific and cultural enrichment.
  • encourages the University’s participation in national and international networks as well as in partnerships on international development cooperation issues.

  • stimulates planning through the establishment of an annual call for proposals reserved for the student community with the goal of financing projects that contribute to improving the quality of life within the University and to strengthening students’ sense of belonging.

Administrative streamlining is the process of making administrative procedures simpler, quicker and more efficient by improving access to services and increasing the transparency of public administrations, all while continuing to support the pursuit of institutional objectives. The aim of this role is to promote streamlining initiatives and to monitor their implementation, while equally maintaining the distinction between political direction and administrative function. The University Prison Programme focuses on activities and strategies relating to the prisoners’ right to education.

In this area, the Rector's Delegate for Administrative Streamlining and the University Prison Programme:

  • identifies the areas of the University’s legislation that could be rationalised, with a view to formulating guidelines for administrative management in agreement with the Rector's Delegate for General and Legal Affairs.
  • identifies areas where the digitisation of services and the integration/interoperability between internal and external databases would help to streamline administrative procedures, in agreement with the Vice-Rector for the Digital Transformation and the Rector's Delegate for Data Reporting.
  • analyses how the administration deals with legal issues of particular relevance and develops guidelines to help reduce the time taken to deal with files.
  • promotes self-certification and online access to documents.
  • identifies initiatives to simplify and rationalise procedures for the arrival of international teachers, students and guests in order to promote the process of internationalisation of the University.
  • promotes training activities for technical and administrative staff that will help them understand and test innovative models and operational methods, that will simplify their day-to-day workload and that encourage them to share best practices and compare personal experience with that of people outside the university community.  This is done in agreement with the Vice-Rector for HR, Trade Unions and Equal Opportunities.

University Prison Programme

In this area, the Rector's Delegate for Administrative Streamlining and the University Prison Programme:

  • represents the University at institutional discussions on the right to university study during a prison sentence.
  • is responsible for the relations between UniTS, the prison administration and any other institutions involved.
  • participates in the national networks active in this field (first and foremost, the National Conference of rectors' delegates for the University Prison Programme).
  • supervises activities related to the University Prison Programme offered within corrective institutions or attended by offenders on probation.
  • promotes access to university education for detainees.
  • coordinates the preparation of periodic reports on the subject (number of students, degree courses, exam attendance, etc.).
  • coordinates the organisation of services for students in prison or on probation (in person teaching, scheduled office hours, exams, mentoring, learning material, access to digital platforms, degree courses), in agreement with the Vice-Rector for Education.

This role has been designed to streamline and optimise the management and analysis of the University and departments' data. The overarching mission behind the role is to plan for the effective use of existing information sources and to fill gaps by identifying new ways of collecting information. The Delegate will also focus on monitoring national and international key indicators to align the University with assessment methodologies and improve its benchmarking in order to identify best practices that improve the quality of its courses and research.

The Rector’s Delegate for Data Reporting:

  • supports UniTS governance in defining strategic guidelines for structured data collection and quantitative analysis in the areas of teaching, research as well as public and social engagement.
  • works in synergy with the Vice-Rector for the Digital Transformation, the Vice-Rector for Quality, the central administrative offices and the departments to plan the automation of data collection and analysis processes, ensuring the consistency and efficiency of information flows.
  • coordinates the design and activation of a University Data Task Force (DTF). This group will be responsible for monitoring and analysing available data sources, delineating new structured collections where necessary, deriving indicators, and supporting the governance and the departments. The primary objective of the DTF will be to define a common minimum set of centrally calculable indicators that can be stratified by department, allowing for longitudinal assessments and comparative analyses that can be used, in particular, for strategic plans and review reports.
  • collaborates with the Quality Assurance Authority (Presidio della Qualità - PQ) to present University strategies and DTF findings and gather further feedback and proposals for future reports.
  • organises targeted meetings with the heads of department and their delegates for Quality Assurance (QA) with the aim of raising awareness on the use of the minimum set of indicators, monitoring specific needs and promoting a widespread data culture.

The purpose of this role is to optimise the use of the University's economic, financial and capital resources. This Rector’s Delegate aims to spread a culture of programming, so that every resource is used to the best possible extent and so that the governing bodies can make informed and effective decisions.

The Rector’s Delegate for Budget Analysis, Financial Planning and Fundraising:

  • supports the governance and relevant offices in coordinating and supervising financial programming, supporting the annual and three-year budgeting process to ensure the sustainability of University activities over time.
  • monitors the alignment between budget and strategy, ensuring that financial, strategic and operational planning are integrated with the aim of ensuring that economic resources fully support the achievement of the University's performance objectives.
  • directs the distribution of resources, proposing criteria for allocating operational funds to departments, central offices and other structures, working closely with the governance, the Director General and the relevant offices.
  • improves the organisation of accounts by proposing the adoption or modification of UniTS organisational units in charge of accounting, verifying their effectiveness.
  • develops reporting, collaborating in the drafting of financial reports, coordinating with the relevant offices, vice-rectors and Rector’s delegates.
  • organises targeted events, meetings and campaigns, cultivating and maintaining relationships with current and potential funders, which may include alumni, companies, foundations, public and private bodies.
  • carries out internal coordination functions, working with departments, academic staff and governance to identify their funding needs and transform them into concrete projects that are attractive to potential funders. They act as a point of contact between internal needs and external opportunities.
  • promotes communication on these issues to illustrate the impact of the funding received and ultimately strengthen the trust of funders and the University’s image.

Energy Manager

The Energy Manager is the contact point for energy conservation and rational energy use. They are therefore responsible for implementing the National Energy Plan and applying the rules on the rational use of energy, on energy saving and on the development of renewable sources. In the performance of their duties, the Energy Manager will collaborate with the Vice-Rector for Building Management, the Rector's Delegate for Sustainability and Energy Transition, the Manager of the Security and Maintenance Division and any relevant University units.

Asbestos Manager

The Asbestos Manager is responsible for monitoring and coordinating all maintenance activities that may involve materials containing asbestos. They are therefore the contact point for the application of rules banning the use of asbestos and for the adoption of protection, decontamination, disposal and environmental reclamation plans in order to protect against the dangers of asbestos. In the performance of their duties, the Asbestos Manager will collaborate with the Waste Manager, the Vice-Rector for Building Management, the Rector's Delegate for Sustainability and Energy Transition, the Manager of the Security and Maintenance Division and the relevant University units.
