The event brings together around 2,000 professionals, including ophthalmic surgeons, university professors, residents, orthoptists, nurses, and representatives from industry.Under the presidency of Professor Daniele Tognetto, President of AICCER, Full Professor at the University of Trieste, and Director of the Ophthalmology Clinic of ASUGI, the congress offers an opportunity for updates and discussions on the latest developments in cataract and refractive surgery.The innovations presented include second-generation intraocular lenses, which provide clear vision both near and far without compromising visual quality; new techniques to simultaneously treat cataracts and other ocular conditions, such as glaucoma and corneal diseases; and the application of artificial intelligence in diagnostic and surgical procedures. Significant attention is also devoted to minimally invasive surgery, the training of new generations of specialists, and the sharing of best clinical practices.The scientific program includes over 80 sessions with talks, workshops, meet-the-experts, and live surgeries broadcast from the Trieste Ophthalmology Clinic to the Convention Center. Among the distinguished guests is Prof. Iqbal Ike K. Ahmed, a leading figure in the international ophthalmology community.At the opening ceremony, on Thursday 27 March at 3:30 PM, the President of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, Massimiliano Fedriga, and the Mayor of Trieste, Roberto Di Piazza, will attend. Remarks will also be delivered by Rector Roberto Di Lenarda and ASUGI Director General Antonio Poggiana. The international faculty will enjoy an exclusive visit to the Sguardi sul Mondo (World Views) photo exhibition by Steve McCurry, hosted at the Salone degli Incanti.The event has a significant impact on the city, generating around 6,000 overnight stays and involving numerous local services, from transport to catering. An occasion that once again confirms Trieste as a reference point for science, medicine, and innovation.
