Series of meetings promoted by the Degree Program in Primary Education at the Stazione Rogers

The "Pedagogical Conversations: Dialogues with the Classics of Pedagogy" series, promoted by the Degree Program in Primary Education at the University of Trieste, begins at the Stazione Rogers. Following an initial in-depth look at Friedl Dicker-Brandeis at the Portogruaro campus on January 28th, the series continues on Wednesday, February 18th (6:00 pm) with Barbara Bocchi, professor of General, Inclusive, and Special Education at the University of Trieste, on the topic of "Célestin Freinet: Birth of a Popular Pedagogy".

This lecture offers a reading of the life and work of Célestin Freinet (1896–1966) as a blend of biographical experience, historical context, and pedagogical construction. Drawing on his teaching practice, Freinet developed an innovative pedagogy born from observation of the real classroom and the need to respond to students' concrete needs. Through the key stages of his life—from his early teaching career to his experience at the Vence school, up to the historical and political turmoil of the twentieth century—the theoretical core of Freinet's pedagogy will be highlighted: work as an educational principle, cooperative classroom organization, the role of the teacher, and learning techniques and environments. Through excerpts from his works, videos, and photographs, the audience will be guided to discover a way of teaching that transcended national borders, changing the perspectives of teaching for the construction of a democratic society.

The Pedagogical Conversations were created to spread awareness of some of the great voices of the past and present, in order to understand and guide today's educational practices. They offer an opportunity for in-depth study, interdisciplinary dialogue, and potential inspiration for research and dissertations.
