First Quantum Aperitif on Thursday 11th April 2024 at 18:30 at Knulp

Italian Quantum Weeks, the national project dedicated to the promotion of quantum science and technology, returns for its third and final edition in the city of Trieste. From 11th April to 6th June 2024, Trieste will be transformed into the beating heart of initiatives promoting knowledge and awareness of quantum mechanics and its innovative applications.

Italian Quantum Weeks is a national project that aims to disseminate the technological revolution resulting from the use of quantum mechanics through a series of initiatives and events led by those who are directly involved: scientists, science communicators and educators.

In collaboration with 23 Italian cities, Italian Quantum Weeks has established itself as a reference point in the field of science communication. This year, the series of events in Trieste will be coordinated by a group of researchers from the CNR and the University of Trieste and students from UniTS and the University of Turin, in collaboration with important institutions of Trieste’s research system, including SISSA - International School of Advanced Studies, ICTP - International Center for Theoretical Physics, SISSA Medialab and the Trieste Institute for the Theory of Quantum Technologies, as well as the University of Pavia. It was also a co-project with the Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, which produced a video to tell the ‘quantum’ advantages of Trieste, which will be premiered on World Quantum Day (14th April) at the San Marco café during the first edition of the Italian Quantum Weeks.

The 'Quantum Aperitifs' will be a unique opportunity to listen to short talks by researchers active in the field of quantum physics, followed by discussions and question-and-answer sessions. These meetings will be held at the Knulp book café, Via Madonna del Mare 7/a, every Thursday at 18:30. During the ‘Quantum Game Cafés’, immediately after the Aperitifs, it will be possible to play with the laws of quantum mechanics, thanks to a selection of board and PC games.

Exclusively for this edition, there will also be a quantum aperitif in Koper on 25th April at the Zenter Experimemtov.

The scheduled activities will include discussions with board game experts, offering the public the chance to explore the quantum world and discover the potential of applying quantum mechanics to everyday tools.

New to this year's edition is its extension to Koper in Slovenia, which thus becomes the ‘Istrian Quantum Weeks’!

For schools, a national lecture has already been organised on 3rd April, involving two high schools in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, which had the opportunity to explore the future of quantum technologies through the experiences of PhD students and post-docs from UniTS.
