The event, which is part of the annual activities of the Permanent Laboratory of Architectural Theory and Design, will be held on Tuesday, 7 October 2025, at 11:30 a.m. in the Aula Magna of the Gorizia University Campus. The day brings together three significant events: Welcome Day for new students enrolled in the POT Orientation programme, a study day on measurement in composition, and a Lectio Magistralis by Aldo Aymonino, architect and former full professor of Architectural and Urban Composition at IUAV in Venice. With his lecture entitled Measured Utopias, Aymonino will offer a reflection on the relationship between vision and concrete design, the central theme of his most recent publication, offering critical insights into the role of architecture in the city and the contemporary landscape. The initiative aims to combine hospitality (orientation), training and research, opening the academic year with a moment of sharing between teachers and students around a fundamental theme of the architecture project: measurement.PROGRAM:Institutional greetings: Prof. Paolo Gallina, Director of the Department of Engineering and ArchitectureIntroduction and presentation of the speaker: Prof. Giuseppina Scavuzzo, Coordinator of the CU Degree Course in ArchitectureLectio magistralis:‘Measured Utopias’Aldo Aymonino, Full Professor of Architectural and Urban CompositionBrief biographical profile: Aldo Aymonino, architect and former full professor at IUAV in Venice, where he directed the Department of Project Cultures, held the UNESCO Chair in Heritage and Urban Regeneration. His work combines design research, critical reflection and professional practice, in a career that has led him to tackle the major issues of contemporary architecture: from urban regeneration to the role of public space, from the symbolic dimension of architectural form to dialogue with the landscape. He has participated in numerous national and international competitions, winning prizes and awards, and has been a design consultant for the “Venezia Nuova” Consortium for the MOSE system's land-based works, one of the most significant infrastructure and environmental projects in Italy. His projects and studies have been presented in prestigious venues, including the Venice Biennale, the Milan Triennale and the RIBA in London, contributing to the international debate on architecture and the city. Alongside his design work, Aldo Aymonino has been intensely involved in academic and scientific pursuits, teaching and lecturing at many European and North American universities – including Toronto, Waterloo, Carleton, Cornell and Washington State – and helping to train generations of architects. He is the author of a vast body of critical and theoretical work: his publications include Funzione e simbolo nell’architettura di Louis Kahn (Function and Symbol in the Architecture of Louis Kahn, 1992), Spazi pubblici contemporanei. Zero Volume Architecture (2006, with Valerio Paolo Mosco), Zero Cubic Architecture (2007), Zodiac 1957-1973: an Italian History (2023, with Federico Bilò), and the recent Measured Utopias (2024, with Giuseppe Caldarola). For further information:tbisiani@units.it avenudo@units.it gscavuzzo@units.it SARA.BASSO@dia.units.it Allegati Document Locandina
