The international conference "(De)constructing Gender in International Judicial Discourse: Actors, Norms, and Practices" will be held on Thursday, October 16 and Friday, October 17, 2025, at the SSLMIT (IUSLIT Department), in the Aula Magna at Via Filzi 14.

The conference is the final event of the PRIN 2022 PNRR project "Rights and Prejudice: Linguistic and Legal Implications of Gendered Discourses in Judicial Spaces" (GenDJus), coordinated by professor Gianluca Pontrandolfo and funded by the European Union - NextGenerationEU under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

The interdisciplinary GenDJus project involves the collaboration of linguists and jurists engaged in the analysis of judicial texts with the ultimate goal of identifying and deconstructing gender stereotypes in the field of sexual, reproductive, and parental rights—a topic of great current relevance at the European and national levels.

The conference speakers will examine the jurisprudence of national and international courts, including the Court of Justice of the European Union, the European Court of Human Rights, and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, on issues such as gender discrimination, gender-based violence against women, voluntary termination of pregnancy, gender reassignment, surrogacy, reproductive rights, gender, and migration.

What does it mean for adjudicators to address gender through the language of human rights? Is it possible to identify traces of potential prejudices, stereotypes, and biases among those adjudicating cases in national and international jurisprudence? What impact do these have on the enjoyment of human rights? These are just some of the questions that the experts presenting at the conference will address.

The complete program is available on the GenDJus website.

The event will be held in person and online. Participation is free, with mandatory registration by October 13, 2025, using the online form.
