WIP2025 - SUPERISONTINO. Architecture at the cut

A system of sections centred on the borderline in three steps: real section, perceived section, imagined section.

WIP2025, integrated design workshops, represents a significant opportunity for all the BoDs in Architecture on an international level, which is centred on the comparison and in-depth study of the most contemporary themes of architecture and the city, which this year will have a specific focus on Gorizia and Nova-Gorica and on the most sensitive areas along the Italy-Slovenia border, given also the ongoing event GO!2025 European Capital of Culture and the programmes and activities developed by UNITS within the main event. The Gorizia border represents today for the cross-border urban system a strategic element and a potential area of transformation.

The theme that this year's two invited lecturers, Sergio Martín Blas and Silvia Colmenares Vilata, will develop with the WIP students, will work on a ‘system of sections’ centred precisely along the Italian-Slovenian borderline, and will do so in ‘three steps’: ‘real’ section, ‘perceived’ section, ‘imagined/planned’ section.

The WIP2025 edition will be held from 14 to 18 July at the University Pole of Gorizia - UNITS. The opening day, Monday 14 July at 10:00 a.m., will open with an institutional moment at the Conference Centre, Via Alviano 18. The organisers and curators of WIP2025, Thomas Bisiani, Giuseppina Scavuzzo and Adriano Venudo, the visiting lecturers from the Escuela Tecnica Superior de Architectura de Madrid Sergio Martín Blas and Silvia Colmenares Vilata, the coordinator of the Course of Studies in Architecture, will take part in the event, the Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Gorizia, Chiara Gatta, the representatives of the Professional Associations (Architects and Engineers), the President of the Consortium for University Development CONSUNIGO, Sergio Orzan, a representative of the CARIGO Foundation and a delegate of the European Group for Territorial Cooperation GECT GO / EZTS GO, arch. Giulia Bonn.

This will be followed from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. by the lecture by the invited lecturers, Sergio Martín Blas and Silvia Colmenares Vilata, which will launch the operational part of WIP2025. The conference will be open to Professional Associations (Architects and Engineers) and the public.

10:00 - 11:00 General introduction WIP2025 (SUPERISONTINO Architettura al taglio), presentation of guests and authorities, Giuseppina Scavuzzo, Adriano Venudo, Thomas Bisiani

Institutional greetings and start of work with speeches by: Consunigo, Carigo, Gorizia Municipality, GECT-GO, Order of Architects PPC Gorizia, Order of Engineers Gorizia

11:00 - 13:00 Conference of the visiting teachers of WIP2025

Cutting Architecture, Sergio Martín Blas and Silvia Colmenares (ETSAM Barcelona)

13:00 - 14:30 Lunch break

14:30 - 19:30 Formation of working groups, organisation of activities, illustration of objectives, themes and phases. Beginning of atelier activities with visiting teacher and tutor

14:30 - 17:30 opening of the final WIP2025 outcomes session, with a speech by the Director of the Department of Engineering and Architecture (Prof. Paolo Gallina), introduction of outcomes (visiting teachers and tutors) and presentation of working group projects (students)

17:30 - 18:30 final critique (with lecturers and experts)

18:30 - 24:00 delivery of certificates of participation, toast and final party.
