Welfare for an Eco-Social Pact", by Vittorio Cogliati Dezza and Giovanni Carrosio (Occhielli Editore), will be presented.Speakers:Vittorio Cogliati Dezza, Inequality and Diversity Forum, former president of LegambienteGiovanni Carrosio, University of TriesteGiuseppe Ieraci, University of TriesteThe climate crisis represents one of the most complex challenges of our time: not only does climate change generate differentiated impacts on the population, increasing inequalities, but energy transition policies themselves can produce regressive distributional effects, if not adequately designed. In this book, Vittorio Cogliati Dezza and Giovanni Carrosio analyze the convergence between environmental justice and social justice, in light of the multiple interdependencies between human well-being, ecosystem integrity, the richness of social relations, the specificity of places, and the decarbonization of production and consumption. They emphasize the need for energy and climate policies to be structural, transversal, and multilevel, at both national and local scales. Only in this way can they integrate environmental sustainability objectives and the reduction of inequalities. Environmental policies lacking social sensitivity risk exacerbating inequalities, while social interventions that ignore the ecological dimension can accelerate the climate crisis. From problem diagnosis, the authors move to action, proposing an energy-climate welfare system: an innovative framework that goes beyond redistributing resources to address the relationship between people and the environment, rethinking social protection systems in response to the new risks generated by climate change. This theoretical and operational perspective aims to simultaneously address the challenges of decarbonization and social cohesion, redefining welfare beyond traditional areas (housing, health, employment, mobility) in an ecological and inclusive way. A welfare system for environmental and social justice. The event is organized by the Department of Political and Social Sciences and CASIP - Interuniversity Center for the Analysis of Symbols and Political Institutions "Mario Stoppino".
