On Friday, 24 October 2025, starting at 9:00 a.m., the international conference ‘Observations on Torture - Dialogues on Combating and Investigating a Universal Crime’ will be held in the Aula Magna of the University's Central Building A, located at Piazzale Europa 1.

The conference is the result of collaboration between the Department of Legal, Linguistic, Interpreting and Translation Sciences and the Clinical Department of Medical, Surgical and Health Sciences at the University of Trieste. It aims to respond to the common need for interdisciplinary discussion on a topic that is of particular historical and dogmatic interest on the one hand, and highly topical on the other.

The event is sponsored by the Council of Europe, and the President of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture, dr Alan Mitchell, will give a keynote speech entitled ‘Human Rights and Prevention of Torture in European Countries’.

Distinguished Italian and foreign speakers will participate, including academics (from the legal and medical-legal fields), magistrates and lawyers.

The initiative, which is also aimed at university students, is open to anyone interested in the topics covered.

The detailed programme of the conference can be found in the attachment below.

Scientific Committee: Stefano Ciampi, Stefano D’Errico
