On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 4 p.m., there will be a Ceremony of Naming of the Great Hall of Building C11 on campus to Prof. Giacomo Costa.

The ceremony will then continue with a seminar by Prof. Yusuke Morisawa, Centennial Visiting Professor at the Department of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences (DSCF) .

Non-destructive spectroscopic analysis: Inspecting materials with invisible light

Prof. Giacomo Costa was one of the founders of Chemistry at the University of Trieste, where he was first Institute Director for ten years (1963-1973), and then Dean of the Faculty of MFN Sciences for about twenty years (1973-1991). His research activities were mainly focused on the study of metallorganic cobalt(II) compounds that act as oxygen transporters and cobalt(III) compounds that are both catalysts and models of vitamin B12. After retirement, he continued to attend the Department as Emeritus and was very dedicated to teaching; he was also a promoter of the Interdepartmental Center for Teaching Research (CIRD). Prof. Giacomo Costa is also listed among the leading figures in the history of UNITS
