Mon, Jan 27 2025, 4 - 7pm Testo evento As part of the Holocaust Memorial Day, on Monday 27th January 2025, starting at 16:00, at the Miela Theatre in Trieste, the eleventh edition of the Multidisciplinary Conference ‘Living with Auschwitz - The Atrocity’ will take place. The initiative, born out of the collaboration between the University of Trieste and the cultural association Stazione Ernesto Nathan Rogers and part of the Rogers' Forum event, financed by the Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, once again promotes dialogue between different disciplines in order to deepen and update the study of the Memory of the Shoah and Deportation. At 16:15, after the welcoming address by the academic bodies, Prof. Mauro Barberis, lecturer in Philosophy of Law at the Department of Legal, Language, Interpreting and Translation Studies (IUSLIT) at the University of Trieste, will open the proceedings. The lecturer will speak on the topic ‘Holocausts or Narratives?’ starting from a question: is Memory just one narration among many? The question arises amidst the ongoing massacres, from the Russian invasion of Ukraine to the Hamas pogrom and the Gaza massacre. Conflicts that lead one to rethink terms such as ‘Shoah’ and ‘Holocaust’. The scholar will try to answer the initial question by extending the phenomenon of the Shoah to all still existing holocausts.Following this, the day will continue with talks by speakers from the University of Trieste and various national universities. Among the guests will be Tomaso Montanari, Rector of the University for Foreigners of Siena. Journalist Pierluigi Sabatti will moderate. The conference will also be offered in the new ‘live preview’ format, with speeches in the hall lasting a maximum of 10 minutes. The full versions of the speeches will then be published by Trieste University Press (EUT) and can be consulted on the University's website. The event will take place under the scientific direction of Mauro Barberis, while the organisation will be handled by Gianni Peteani, president of the Permanent Committee in honour of Ondina Peteani, Italy's first partisan relay woman, Auschwitz Deportee No 81672. For international relations, Alessandra Riccardi, lecturer in German language and translation (IUSLIT), will be involved.Live streaming on YouTube channels of Stazione Rogers and Teatro Miela Allegati Document Flyer and full programme
