01 April 2026, 4:30 - 7 pm Testo evento On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 4:30 pm, the conference "Multicultural City; "Very Italian City"; City of Science: Trieste between the 19th and 20th Centuries" will take place in the Costantinides Hall of the Sartorio Civic Museum (Largo Papa Giovanni XXIII, 1), Trieste. This is the sixth event in the series of popular seminars entitled Porti, popolazioni, società in un'area di frontiera, promoted by the Department of Humanities (DiSU) with the scientific coordination of professor Tullia Catalan. The great Habsburg port, a crossroads of cultures and religions, underwent a profound transformation after World War I, with its population experiencing significant changes as a result of migration and immigration and Italy's policy of mass nationalization. The border with Eastern Europe long became a wall, violently pitting Slovenians and Italians against each other. This climate persisted after World War II, easing with the general easing of tensions in the 1960s and 1970s, thanks in part to the role played in the city by culture and science, which served as bridges to the East even during the Cold War.The programme includes speeches by Luca Giuseppe Manenti (Manlio Cecovini International Society for the dissemination of historical, social and ethical studies), Tullia Catalan (UniTS), Elisabetta Vezzosi (UniTS) e Alessandro Carrieri (UniTS).
