Milan Continues. Travelling seminar and life drawing classes

Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd October 2025

The study trip to Milan, which will take place from 21 to 22 October 2025, is part of the Studio Due project, an experimental inter-university educational coordination programme at national level on “Architectural and urban composition, and design theories and techniques” launched by Thomas Bisiani and Adriano Venudo (UNITS) with Elvio Manganaro (Polimi), Alberto Calderoni (UNINA) and Felice De Silva (UNISA), who were joined by other colleagues from the four universities involved. The project involves collaboration, coordination and exchange between the educational activities (themes, tools, methodologies) of the Architectural Composition 2 Laboratories of the University of Trieste, the Polytechnic University of Milan, the Federico II University of Naples and the University of Salerno.

The Architectural Composition 2 Laboratories of the four Italian universities will work simultaneously on the same case study for the academic year 2025-2026, investigating the same themes and with moments and activities of joint work, with exchanges and discussions between teachers and students.

At the end of the academic year, the results of the Composition 2 Workshops of the four universities will be discussed and collected, followed by a specific publication to disseminate the educational and scientific outcomes.

Studio Due is now in its third edition and, after Naples and Gorizia-Nova Gorica, this year's educational projects will be developed in Milan, the destination for this two-day programme of travelling seminars and live lessons.

“Milano continua” (Milan continues) is the title of this journey, which evokes the idea of educational continuity at Studio Due, but also and above all a continuity in the discipline of architecture, between past and future, referring in particular to Ernesto Nathan Rogers, a master who ideally unites the Schools of Architecture of Trieste and Milan.

The study trip consists of four parts: a visit to Piazza Duomo in Milan (this year's project area), led by Claudio Meninno, head of the Composition Course; a visit to modern and contemporary architecture (real-life lessons), recent works by nationally and internationally renowned architects with Thomas Bisiani, Laboratory Coordinator, and Adriano Venudo, Head of the Architectural Design Theory and Techniques Course; a conference organised by Elvio Manganaro and colleagues from the DABC at the Politecnico di Milano for visiting students.

This year's novelty concerns the following day, which will be dedicated to a new and experimental educational programme spanning architecture, installations and environmental art, developed in collaboration with Michela Lupieri, head of the Contemporary Art History course. In the following weeks, students will be asked to integrate the information and data collected into the educational workshop project.
