On Wednesday 27 May, from 10:30 to 12:30, at the Budinich Lecture Hall in the Leonardo Building of ICTP and via live streaming, the ICTP Colloquium “Materials Design for a Sustainable Planet” will take place, jointly organised by ICTP and the University of Trieste.

The event will feature Nobel Prize in Chemistry laureate Omar M. Yaghi, James and Neeltje Tretter Chair Professor of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley, who will deliver a lecture entitled “Covalent Organic Frameworks, Molecular Weaving and AI for the Planet”. The talk will focus on the development of advanced porous materials such as covalent organic frameworks (COFs), the concept of molecular weaving, and the role of artificial intelligence in accelerating the design of new materials for strategic applications, including carbon dioxide capture and responses to climate challenges.

The Colloquium will open with the scientific lecture by Prof. Yaghi and will continue with a panel discussion featuring Prof. Laura Gagliardi (University of Chicago), Prof. Hexiang Deng (Wuhan University), and Prof. Paolo Fornasiero (University of Trieste), moderated by Ralph Gebauer (ICTP).
