On Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 6:00 PM, a new appointment of “Focus on Careers” will take place — the series promoted by the Career Service of the University of Trieste to help students and recent graduates navigate today’s job market. This session will feature Roberto Di Lenarda, Rector of the University and Full Professor of Diseases of the Oral Cavity, who will share the milestones of his academic and professional journey, from his early days as a student to his current leadership role.

The event, titled “From UniTS Student to Rector”, will be held in hybrid format: in person in Room 1A, Building D (Piazzale Europa 1, Trieste), and online via the University’s official YouTube channel. The interview will be conducted by Cristina Perini, Head of the University’s Press Office.

During the conversation, Professor Di Lenarda will share his personal experience — what led him to study Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics, and why he chose to work in the public healthcare system. He will also explore the organizational and managerial aspects of medical practice, from running a university clinic to teaching and ultimately leading the University as Rector. The talk will also focus on the importance of soft skills for each phase of a professional journey: communication with patients, leadership in clinical and academic contexts, mentoring younger generations, and balancing scientific responsibilities with institutional duties. Special attention will be given to the role of mentors during critical transitions, and to the idea of "passing the torch" at the end of a leadership mandate. The Rector will close the session by sharing a symbolic “message in a bottle” addressed to those about to embark on their professional path.
