On Wednesday, 1 October 2025, from 11:00 to 12:30, at the SBA INFORMATION POINT located in the Central Building A of the Campus in Piazzale Europa 1, left wing, ground floor, a meeting entitled ‘Fake News: Words from the Past’ will take place.

Matilde Fontanin (PhD, UniTS Librarian) and Paolo Labinaz (Associate Professor of Philosophy and Language Theory at the Department of Humanities of the University of Trieste) will speak on the topic.

"Fake news" seems like a very recent term, but it actually originated at the end of the 19th century. Other words (such as post-truth, truthiness, infodemic) have a fascinating and distant history, demonstrating that Internet phenomena are not so revolutionary after all, but are rooted in the essence of human relationships. It's just that the effects are amplified on the Internet, increasing both opportunities and critical issues.
