Presentation of the special issue of "Futuribili. Journal of Future Studies and Social Forecasting", EUT Edizioni Università di Trieste, 2024, No. 1/2, Vol. XXIX. "Somalia: From Research into the Past to a Future Perspective"

On Monday, June 8, 2026, at 4:00 PM, in the Predonzani Hall of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Regional Palace, Piazza Unità d'Italia 1 in Trieste, a conference will be held to present the special issue of the EUT journal "Futuribili," entitled "Somalia: From Research into the Past to a Future Perspective", edited by Ahmed Faghi Elmi and Ornella Urpis.

The initiative is organized by the Italian-Somali cultural association SAGAL APS, with the support of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, and represents an important opportunity to explore contemporary Somalia, including historical memory, social transformations, and future scenarios. The event aims to foster dialogue between Italy and Somalia on issues such as cooperation, development, education, and international relations.

After institutional greetings and an introduction by Regional Councilor Pierpaolo Roberti and SAGAL Association President Ahmed Faghi Elmi, the conference will be moderated by writer and journalist Paolo Pichierri.

The meeting will present the editorial line of the magazine Futuribili, with remarks by editor Alberto Gasparini and Elena Tonzar, head of EUT Edizioni Università di Trieste. This will be followed by a presentation of the volume's contents by the editors and authors, including Ornella Urpis and Abdulkadir Ruumi, who will offer an interdisciplinary overview of Somali socio-cultural dynamics.

Il programma prevede inoltre contributi di studiosi ed esperti, rappresentanti istituzionali e del mondo della cooperazione, tra cui: Enrico Sbriglia, Federico Battera, Federico Donelli, Maria Spina, Elio Trusiani, Alberto Monticco e Cristiano Pizzo, nonché interventi istituzionali del Comune di Trieste, della Repubblica Italiana e della Repubblica Federale di Somalia: Serena Tonel, vicesindaco del Comune di Trieste, Pier Mario Daccò, ambasciatore d’Italia nella Repubblica Federale di Somalia (da remoto), Khalid Maou, vice ambasciatore della Repubblica Federale di Somalia e Maria Ilena Rocha, presidente Nazionale ANOLF ETS – Associazione oltre le frontiere.

The closing remarks will be delivered by professor Salim Alio Ibro, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

The publication, published by EUT Edizioni Università di Trieste, is part of the international debate on development and cooperation paths, offering an updated and multidisciplinary reflection on the Somali context.

The event is open to all.
