Seminar "On White Architecture" by Thomas Bisiani, Adriano Venudo

MONDAY, MARCH 30, 2026

SEMINAR: Room C1, Androna Baciocchi, from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM

ARCHITECTURE: Rogers Station, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM

Introduction: Adriano Venudo

Paolo De Marco: "Myth and Principles of White Architecture"

Conclusions: Thomas Bisiani

The seminar will address language and composition in architectural design with respect to those conditions referred to as "superficial" in architecture. Appearance—as philosophers said—is what is perceived immediately by the senses and is, according to Aristotle, the starting point for the search for truth, which medieval philosophy would later define as "authentic manifestation".

Paolo De Marco will offer a broad and original reflection on the meaning of white in contemporary architecture. This journey intertwines history, culture, myth, poetry, and science. The two publications, which explore white not as a mere formal feature, but as a device capable of connecting diverse experiences and languages, will be discussed. The Spanish version is enriched by discussions with internationally renowned architects, including Alberto Campo Baeza, Álvaro Siza, Manuel Aires Mateus, Elisa Valero, and Fran Silvestre, and offers a critical yet sensitive vision of one of the most persistent and complex themes in modern and contemporary architecture.
