The event marks the conclusion of the research project MiReIL – Migration and Religion in International Law, funded under the 2022 PRIN programme.Coordinated by Professor Giuseppe Pascale, the project has taken a distinctly international law approach, enriched by interdisciplinary contributions and a rigorous methodology. Its overarching aim has been to provide a meaningful response to the challenges of multicultural societies facing complex and evolving social dilemmas. In today’s globalised world, international legal frameworks are increasingly vital for addressing the intersections of migration and religion.Rooted in international legal scholarship, the MiReIL project has brought together researchers from legal, political and economic disciplines to advance understanding of the everyday issues that shape contemporary societies. Partner institutions include the University of Bologna, Sapienza University of Rome, and LUISS Guido Carli. The conference will gather leading international scholars in Trieste, including Alberto Bisin (New York University), Agustin Motilla de la Calle (Universidad Carlos III de Madrid), Stephanie Berry (University of Sussex), Imen Gallala-Arndt (Max-Planck-Institut di Halle), and Eduardo Savarese (University of Naples Federico II). The programme will feature six thematic sessions exploring the intersections of migration and religion with constitutional law, EU law, international law and related fields. The event will take place in the ‘Francesco Cacciaguerra’ Hall at Building A, Piazzale Europa Campus. While the conference is primarily intended for the academic community, admission is free and open to students, who may be eligible to receive type-F credits for attendance. The initiative is supported by the Department of Political and Social Sciences at the University of Trieste, with additional backing from the Bar Councils of Trieste, Gorizia, Udine and Pordenone, as well as funding from the Italian Ministry of University and Research under the PRIN scheme.
