The Ducaton Gallery will open on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 5:00 PM, at the Conference Center at Via Alviano 18, Gorizia.

In 2024, Trieste-born painter Annamaria Ducaton (1936-2026), on the occasion of the centenary of the University of Trieste, has donated a series of paintings entitled "La donna del mare" (The Lady from the Sea) to the University. Created between 1984 and 1985, the cycle consists of 28 canvases and is inspired by Henrik Ibsen's 1889 play of the same name. It explores an emotional journey in which the artist engages in dialogue with her mother, the actress Giannina Herman Macknig, and Ellida, the protagonist of Ibsen's play.

As a tribute and token of gratitude to the recently deceased painter, the University of Trieste has dedicated a gallery to her, where her "La donna del mare" series will remain permanently on display.
