"Teamwork": In a world where individual abilities are appropriately enhanced by the ability to work together, with classmates today, with colleagues tomorrow, we believe it is appropriate to give our children the concrete opportunity to experience this type of experience in a playful atmosphere like that of math games.

The Department of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Geosciences of the University of Trieste is organizing the 19th edition of the "Coppa Aurea" Team Mathematics Competition.

The competition will take place on Friday, March 6, 2026, in the Aula Magna of the University of Trieste, on the third floor of the central building A of the Campus, starting at 2:45 PM.

This year, 26 participating institutions will be from Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Veneto, and Croatia. Several provinces will be represented: Trieste, Gorizia, Udine, Pordenone, Treviso, Venice, Padua, and Pula.

Spectators are expected to cheer on the various teams. The winning team will be awarded the Coppa Aurea, which will be retained by the respective school until the following edition, when it will be up for grabs again. The current champion is the Leonardo da Vinci High School of Treviso, which won the 2025 edition with its team "I 7 del leone." The Ippolito Nievo High School of Padua won the 2019 and 2023 editions with its team "Gente poco seria." The cup will remain permanently with the school that wins three editions of the competition, so it could be awarded permanently to Nievo if it wins again.

The top-ranked teams will be admitted to the national team competition to be held in Cesenatico in May.

To prepare the students for solving unconventional mathematical problems and to facilitate team strategy development, several training sessions have been organized, led by PhD and undergraduate students in mathematics at the University of Trieste.

Organizing committee: Franco Obersnel, Edi Rosset, and Andrea Sfecci, from the Department of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Geosciences at the University of Trieste; Amalia Abbate, Trieste district representative for the Mathematics Olympiad.
