Academic Year 2024/25

If you obtained an academic degree abroad and want have it recognised in Italy, read the guidelines (link below). If your degree meets the required criteria, you can submit your application for permanent degree recognition by following the instructions on this page. The process may take several months. However, if you only need your degree to be recognised in order to apply for a public competition or for employment purposes, you can request temporary ministerial equivalence directly from CIMEA. Read about how to apply here.

Application deadline: November 29, 2024

Please note the following exceptions::

  • For degree courses with competitive admission, you must submit your application for degree recognition within the deadlines set by the call for applications, published on the dedicated webpage for each degree programme;
  • If you obtained your degree in a country with which Italy has signed an intergovernmental agreement, you can also submit your application outside the indicated period, according to the procedures provided by the aforementioned agreement (check with the Admissions Office).

How to apply for permanent degree recognition

  • Register with the Student Online Portal (Esse3).

  • Fill out the application form. Make sure that you copy the details of your foreign degree accurately as well as the details of the corresponding Italian degree you are requesting recognition for. You can find this information in the  University's Course Catalog.

  • Email the completed application form and all the documents listed in the next section to the Admissions Office for the area your course of study is part of.

  • A request for payment of two fees will then be generated using digital postal payment slips (bollettino postale). You will have to pay €16.00 to cover the tax duty and €150.00 to cover the evaluation of the degree. The digital postal payment slips will be visible in the ‘Payments’ section of the University online Academic Services (Esse3).
    IMPORTANT: Your application is only complete after you have paid the above. The recognition process will only be initiated after you have made the payments.

  • Submit original physical documents to the Admissions Office for final verification. These must be exactly the same as the copies you sent via email in your application.
  • Pay the degree recognition fee of €400.00 and the cost of the revenue stamp of €16.00 for your physical degree diploma.

Finally, the Admissions Office will send you the rectoral decree which certifies the recognition of your qualification to your certified email address (PEC) as indicated on your application. They will also provide instructions for collecting your Italian degree diploma.

In the case that the department and/or Academic Senate decide that your degree cannot be recognised directly, the department will detail any supplementary educational activities to be completed (e.g., additional exams to be taken).

If you decide to complete these supplementary educational activities at our University, you must enrol in the degree course indicated by the department within 30 days of receiving these details. Failure to enrol within this time frame will result in a late fee..
