If your degree meets the required criteria, you can submit your application for permanent degree recognition by following the instructions on this page. The process may take several months.However, if you only need your degree to be recognised in order to apply for a public competition or for employment purposes, you can request a temporary ministerial equivalence directly from CIMEA. Allegati Document Guidelines for recognition of a foreign academic degree Application deadline: 28th November 2025Please note the following exceptions:For degree courses with competitive admission, you must submit your application for degree recognition within the deadlines set by the call for applications, published on the dedicated webpage for each degree programme. You can also contact the Admissions Office. If you obtained your degree in a country with which Italy has signed an intergovernmental agreement, you can also submit your application outside the indicated period, according to the procedures provided by the aforementioned agreement (check with the Admissions Office). How to apply for permanent degree recognition Register with the online Student Academic Services (Esse3). Fill out the application form. Make sure that you copy the details of your foreign degree accurately as well as the details of the corresponding Italian degree you are requesting recognition for. You can find this information in the University's Course Catalogue. Save the completed application form as a pdf and send it along with all the documents listed in the next section to the Admissions Office for the area your course of study is part of. A request for payment of two fees will then be generated using digital postal payment slips (bollettino postale). You will have to pay €16.00 to cover the stamp duty and €150.00 to cover the evaluation of the degree. The digital postal payment slips will be visible in the ‘Payments’ section of the University online Student Academic Services (Esse3).IMPORTANT: Your application will not be considered complete until you have sent all of the required documents and made the above payments. This means the recognition process will not start until you have done this.No extensions will be offered for the receipt of documents. If any of your documents contain multiple pages, they should be ordered. Make sure that you have scanned your documents correctly and that they are legible. Please, provide details of all exams taken, with corresponding number of ECTS/CFU credits, marks and academic discipline codes (settori scientifico-disciplinari – SSD).Transcript or letter with details of exams taken with corresponding marks. This should also include details of any credits and hours of study. Alternatively, instead of submitting documents listed under points 4a (i.e., the statement of correspondence) and 5, you can submit a Diploma Supplement, provided that it includes details of exams taken and any other elements useful for evaluating the course of study. Detailed syllabus (in Italian or English) of all exams taken. If the original language is different, check this page to see if your syllabus will be accepted by your degree course Committee in its original language. Copy of your dissertation (for bachelor's degrees – EQF 6) or thesis (for master's degrees – EQF 7) – if written in Italian or English. If you wrote your thesis in another language, you should send the original with an English or Italian translation or the original with an abstract in Italian or English. Declaration that the content of the copy of your dissertation and/or thesis is ’true to the original‘: fill out this form. Identity document (front/back). Document detailing your Italian tax code (if not included on your identity document). If you are a non-EU citizen, include a copy of your residence permit. Documentation which attests to your knowledge of the Italian language. This language requirement can also be assessed with an interview with a suitable commission.The Admissions Office and the evaluation committee maintain the right to request any additional documentation that is necessary for the recognition process. Procedure and outcome If the department’s evaluation is positive, you will be asked to submit your original physical documents to the Admissions Office for final verification. These documents must be exactly the same as the copies you sent via email at the time of your application.After the Academic Senate has approved the recognition of your degree, you will have to pay the degree recognition fee of €400.00 and the cost of the stamp duty (€16.00) for your physical degree diploma.Finally, the Admissions Office will send you the rectoral decree which certifies the recognition of your qualification to your certified email address (PEC), as indicated on your application. They will also provide instructions for collecting your Italian degree diploma.Other outcomesIn the case that the department and/or Academic Senate decide that your degree cannot be recognised directly, the department will detail any supplementary educational activities to be completed (e.g., additional exams to be taken). If you decide to complete these supplementary educational activities at our university, you must enrol in the degree course indicated by the department within 30 days of receiving these details.
