International students applying for a visa need to pass a language proficiency assessment in addition to any initial test(s) already scheduled for their chosen degree course.

Italian proficiency assessment

The test is required if you are a student applying for a visa and you wish to enrol in a degree course taught in Italian, unless:

  • you studied at one of the international schools listed here.
  • you have a B2-level Italian proficiency certificate or higher issued in the framework of the CLIQ quality system (CELI, CILS, PLIDA), also in agreement with an Italian Cultural Institute abroad.
  • you obtained a score of 50% or more in the CISIA Italian L2 test, organised by other universities.

English proficiency assessment

Many degree courses require an English proficiency assessment. Assessment may vary depending on the degree course.
