The University of Trieste is at the forefront in protecting the health of students, researchers and all technical and administrative staff. This is all the more true when it comes to safety abroad.

Our University was the coordinator of the MAECI-CRUI table for the drafting of the guidelines approved by the CRUI on security abroad, and since 2023 it has had an agreement in place with the Farnesina Crisis Unit to guarantee a constant direct line with Italian diplomatic offices around the world.

Before leaving

  • Find out about the country of destination (social, political and security context, local customs, habits and religion)
  • Download the Farnesina Crisis Unit app where you will find useful information on your destination country
  • Check which vaccinations are compulsory and, in general, find out about all the health precautions to be observed
  • Check the validity of your documents (passport, identity card) and take a photocopy with you when you travel (which you will keep in a different place from the originals)
  • In particular, check whether your passport has sufficient remaining validity for the duration of your trip and has at least one blank page for stamps
  • Do not forget your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC - back of health insurance card) if your destination is an EU country
  • For non-EU travel: check the need for health insurance with an adequate ceiling, covering not only the costs of medical treatment and therapies, but also possible repatriation by emergency air ambulance or transfer to another country
  • In the case of the usual use of medicines: take an adequate supply with you
  • Register on the dovesiamonelmondo.it website (also through the Crisis Unit app)

Upon arrival

  • If you buy a local phone card: remember to enter the new number on dovesiamonelmondo.it
  • Record on your mobile phone the local contact telephone numbers (tutor, reference secretary of the host institution, etc.) and the country's emergency numbers
  • If the country of destination is considered a risk country: also inform the Italian diplomatic representation (Embassy, Consulate) of all the details of your trip.

In the event of an emergency, attack or other serious event

  • Avoid or move away from the affected area as soon as possible
  • Stay in your home/hotel
  • Keep informed through the media and follow the instructions of the local authorities
  • Communicate your location to the diplomatic representation on site
  • Communicate your safety to your family (via text message, social media, telephone) who must then notify the Crisis Unit

General advice

  • In the event of a stay abroad of several months: undergo medical examinations before leaving (ophthalmologist, dentist, etc.)
  • Avoid places of assembly and/or demonstrations
  • Observe appropriate health and hygiene precautions (e.g. drink only from sealed bottles, do not add ice to drinks, eat meat only well cooked, etc.).
  • Wear appropriate clothing (especially in places of worship)
  • Do not photograph or film military installations
  • Use general common sense at all times
