"Piazzale Europa" January 2026 issue is online!

The first issue of the new year of Piazzale Europa continues to offer a glimpse into the stories that define the UniTS community: from research that strives to push the boundaries of the possible, to innovation that becomes enterprise; from communication pathways that transform science into a narrative, to the sacrifices and passion of those who balance study and sport.

We begin with Innova@UniTS, where we introduce the launch of SIPEOM, a spin-off developing digital tools to help maritime transport reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

The protagonists of Research Stories reveal their frontier projects, which will receive significant funding from the Italian Science Fund (FIS): the topics include cardiac tissue regeneration and photovoltaics, where a digital twin accelerates the development of more efficient solar cells.

The column Alumni Tales outlines the career path of Filippo Bonaventura: from his studies at UniTS to the founding of Geopop, where science communication becomes a profession built on method, writing, and the responsibility of transforming complexity into accessible content.

During this season of Olympic Games and winter sports, the UniTSport column takes us to the ice rink, where Giorgio De Giacinto, a 6th-year Medical student and hockey player, balances lectures, exams, hospital internships, training sessions, and matches.

Enjoy the read!

Piazzale Europa is the online magazine that tells the story of the University of Trieste.
Launched in October 2024, it engages with the UniTS portal homepage by highlighting the main news and offers original content every month, organized into four sections: Innov@UniTS, Alumni Stories, UniTSport, and Research Stories.
