25 February 2026, 4:30 - 7 pm Testo evento On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at 4:30 pm, the conference "Rich and Poor in Trieste from the Middle Ages to the Contemporary Age" will take place in the Sala Costantinides of the Sartorio Civic Museum (Largo Papa Giovanni XXIII, 1), Trieste.This is the second event in the series of educational seminars entitled Porti, popolazioni, società in un'area di frontiera, promoted by the Department of Humanities (DiSU) and coordinated by professor Tullia Catalan.Experts from various eras will analyze the local society and its population through the lens of social justice, philanthropy, and charity, with a focus on the daily lives and needs of a multi-ethnic and multi-religious population. Key institutions such as the General Institute for the Poor will be explored, from its transformations from the Habsburg period to the Fascist era, culminating in its important role today in contemporary welfare.The programme includes presentations by Miriam Davide (UniTS), Andrea Scartabellati (independent researcher), Antonio Trampus (Ca' Foscari University of Venice) and Tullia Catalan (UniTS).
