Launch of eduVPN, the new service providing secure connections and protected data for students, lecturers and researchers without geographical borders

The Italian research network GARR has officially made available to students, teachers and researchers the new eduVPN service for secure surfing, wherever they are in the world.
Designed for those who study, teach or work in academia or research, eduVPN allows them to surf safely even outside university or research facilities, protecting their data from potential risks, especially on public networks.

eduVPN is a virtual private network (VPN) that creates an encrypted tunnel between the user's device and a remote server. Particularly useful on unprotected Wi-Fi networks (such as those in airports, hotels or public premises), this service prevents transmitted data from being intercepted by third parties.
With eduVPN, it is possible to choose to connect not only to the GARR network, but also to other international research networks (e.g. French, German or Dutch). Around twenty research networks worldwide already subscribe to the service.

Among the main advantages is unrestricted access to international resources, such as research tools and educational content, which are sometimes only accessible from certain geographical locations. With eduVPN, researchers and students can, in fact, access the same resources while away or on Erasmus, thus having the opportunity to work continuously even off-campus and during periods of international mobility. In this way, it is possible to improve the effectiveness and quality of research and to foster international collaborations through secure data transfer.
eduVPN is coordinated at the European level by GÉANT, the European Research Network, which supports and promotes the service to ensure high standards of security and privacy for the entire European academic community.
