From April 23 to 25, the University of Trieste will host the international scientific conference EvoStar (https://www.evostar.org/2025/), the premier European event on bio-inspired artificial intelligence, organized under the auspices of SPECIES, the "Society for the Promotion of Evolutionary Computation in Europe and its Surroundings."

Now in its twenty-seventh edition (the first was held in Paris in 1998), the event returns to Italy after the 2018 edition in Parma.

Every year, hundreds of researchers from around the world attend EvoStar, drawn by the high quality of the work and the friendly, collaborative environment. This year is no exception, with participants from over 20 countries, including European nations such as the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, and the Netherlands, as well as researchers from outside Europe, including the United States, Brazil, India, China, and Japan.

The event includes four conferences on various topics related to bio-inspired artificial intelligence:

  • EuroGP, the 28th European Conference on Genetic Programming, is one of the leading conferences in the field of evolutionary computation.
  • EvoApplications, the international conference on applications of evolutionary computation, with sessions covering many topics, from social network applications to integration with language models, digital healthcare, personalized medicine, and games.
  • EvoCOP, the 25th European Conference on Combinatorial Optimization, focuses on methods of evolutionary computation and metaheuristics for solving combinatorial optimization problems arising in industrial, economic, and scientific contexts.
  • EvoMUSART, the 14th International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Music, Sound, Art, and Design, is a multidisciplinary event that explores the application of artificial intelligence techniques in the most artistic and creative fields.

A series of ancillary events (such as “The Great EvoStar Scavenger Hunt 2025” or the student workshop) will be accompanied by two distinguished invited speakers: Tea Tušar (Jožef Stefan Institute, Slovenia) and Daniela Besozzi (University of Milano-Bicocca, Italy).

The conference is organized by UniTS professors Luca Manzoni (MIGe), Eric Medvet (DIA), Giorgia Nadizar (DIA), and Gloria Pietropolli (MIGe), and will take place at the DEAMS Department facilities.
