The tree, in its biological, cultural and symbolic dimensions, represents an indispensable element of the landscape and the human imagination. This study day aims to explore the historical, architectural, agronomic and iconic value of trees, questioning their role in design processes and in the construction of collective spaces.

Through a multidisciplinary approach, the lectures will address issues related to the planting and care of trees, the interaction between man and the tree landscape, and the representation of the tree as a cultural archetype. Projects of parks and gardens will also be illustrated in which the tree has played a crucial role, helping to define new balances between nature and architecture.

The event will offer a space for confrontation between theory and practice, between imagination and technique, to reflect on the profound meaning of ‘inhabiting’ trees and with trees, in an era in which the relationship between man and nature is more central than ever to the design and cultural debate.

Man's relationship with nature cannot be conceived in a reductionist or disjointed manner. Edgar Morin

Imagination is a tree. It has the integrative virtues of a tree. It is roots and branches. It lives between earth and sky. It lives in the earth and in the wind. The imperceptibly imagined tree becomes the cosmological tree, epitome of a universe, creator of a universe. Gaston Bachelard
