On 5th and 6th December, Stazione Rogers (Riva Grumula 14, Trieste), will host ‘Beyond Translation’ (sTradurre), a series of talks about how translation and poetry can be used as instruments of dialogue and cultural understanding. 

The project will involve an interdisciplinary reflection with contributions from academics, translators and artists. It is curated by Helena Lozano Miralles of the Department of Humanities and open to all members of the public.

Thursday 5th December

¬ 15:00 - Diana Battisti (University of Trieste): Demons, heroes and… fighters: translating Stefan Zweig's theatre.

¬ 16:00 - Elisabetta Bartuli: Translating from Arabic.

¬ 17:00 - Carla Valeria de Souza Faria and Alessia Quazzolo (University of Trieste): Translating from and into Portuguese: challenges in translating a pluricentric language.

¬ 18:30 at Knulp (Via Madonna del Mare, 7/a): Presentation of the book Il racconto di un muro by Nasser Abu Srour, with the translator Elisabetta Bartuli and a conversation with Cristiana Baldazzi and Sergia Adamo (University of Trieste).

Friday 6th December

¬ 10:00 - Veronica Bonelli and Ljiljana Avirovic (University of Trieste): The translation of A Life Without a Name by Vladimir Stojsavljevic.

¬ 11:00 - Margherita De Michiel, Karin Plattner and Chiara Rainis (University of Trieste): S-Puškin! Three Translations. Evgenij Onegin on stage, in comics and Friulian.

¬ 12:00 - Nadine Celotti and Raffaella Diacono (University of Trieste): Presentation of the volume Poetica della traduzione by Henri Meschonnic (Cacucci Editore, 2024).

¬ 15:00 - Antonella Mele: Theatrical translation as ‘third space’.

¬ 15:30 - Ottavio Gruber and Enzo Santese: The Istrovenetian poetry of Ottavio Gruber.

¬ 16:30 - Round table: The translation in the poetry prizes M'illumino d'immenso and Castello di Duino, with Barbara Bertoni, Fabio Morabito, Helena Aguilà, Ottavio Gruber and Silvia Storti.

¬ 18:30 - Performance: Valzer Triestino with Mark Veznaver and Jesús Valenti Mora Castro.

¬ Monday 9th December at 18:00, at the Saba Antiquarian Bookshop (Via San Nicolò, 38): Presentation of the book I lumi di Hannukah by Rafael Cansinos Assens, with Nicole Lovat, Ana Cecilia Prenz, Mark Veznaver and Enrico Regatin.
