On friday, september 20 and saturday, september 21, 2024, starting at 9:30 a.m., the Conference “Inheritance of whom and for whom? Archaeology, history and memory of places” will take place at the Department of Humanities, Via del Lazzaretto Vecchio 8, Room 5.

The event is intended as a moment of reflection on the function of heritages, both tangible and intangible, for the communities they serve. The goal is to identify new strategies that unite research with the enhancement of cultural heritage, to foster new processes of participation, social cohesion, and sustainable development. Involved are figures with experience in participatory archaeology (e.g., Ancient Appia), managers or directors of parks and sites that are significant because they are linked to significant historical events or have received the “European Heritage Label” (Ancient Ostia, Fort Cadine in Trentino, Sant'Anna di Stazzema).

The meeting is part of strategic objective RIC-O.2 (Promote research open to international comparison in all sectors), as it puts parks that have been awarded the “European Heritage Label” at the center of reflection and thanks to the involvement of researchers who have been involved, including at the international level, in projects for the management and enhancement of archaeological heritage; it is also part of strategic objective RIC-O.3 (Strengthen interdepartmental collaboration as well as synergies with research institutions, agencies and companies in the area to develop multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research), as it involves officials from different Superintendencies (FVG, Lombardy, Ostia, etc.). It is also planned to publish the results of the meeting (RIC-O.4, Strengthening scientific production of excellent quality).

The program of the Conference also includes a guided tour of the Fisherman's Village, a village created to give hospitality to Istrian exiles, which is at the center of an important valorization project. The presence in the area is significant, because it is precisely from the context of the Fisherman's Village (Duino) that the reflection on the theme of the valorization of the places of memory and their heritage wants to start.

The event is open to the public. The citizenry is invited to participate.

The initiative is promoted by the Department of Humanistic Studies of the University of Trieste, in collaboration with the Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio of Friuli Venezia Giulia, the Soprintendenza Archeologia Belle Arti e Paesaggio for the provinces of Bergamo and Brescia, the Museo Civico di Storia Naturale of Trieste, the Municipality of Duino Aurisina, the Gruppo Speleologico Flondar, and the Order of Architects of Trieste.

Organization and Scientific Coordination: Emanuela Murgia (University of Trieste) and Serena Solano (Soprintendenza Archeologia Belle Arti e Paesaggio for the provinces of Bergamo and Brescia).

The Conference is a training initiative promoted by an entity accredited as a training institution by the MIUR and, therefore, allows exemption from duty for School teaching staff . A certificate of attendance will be issued.

The conference is part of the Sustainable Mobility Week in Duino Aurisina on the theme “Shared Public Space,” coordinated by the Ermada Group.

The Order of Architects recognizes 3 cfp for each of the two scheduled sessions, for a total of 6 cfp.
