Suspension of the PhD Programme

PhD students can request a suspension of the PhD Programme if the conditions set out in the Regulation for PhD Programmes are met.

In order to apply for suspension, the PhD student is required to fill in the form that is attached below, which must be signed by the Coordinator as well. Then, the PhD student is required to email the form to dottorati@amm.units.it from their institutional account.

The application for suspension involves the payment of the stamp duty (€ 16.00) through the PagoPA system, which will be charged on the PhD student career in Esse3 by the PhD Office.

As soon as students take up attendance after suspension, they are requested to fill in the readmission form by stating the actual date of the research activity resumption. The form must be signed by the Coordinator as well, and the PhD student is required to email it to dottorati@amm.units.it from the institutional account.

PLEASE NOTE: The suspension periods, which must be approved by the Academic Board, cannot exceed 6 months in total (with the exception of specific cases provided for by law), and must be made up for.

Extension of the PhD Programme

  1. For proven reasons that do not allow the submission of the doctoral thesis within the timeframe of the legal duration of the Course, the doctoral student has the opportunity to request an extension (without a grant) of the maximum duration of twelve months of the thesis submission deadline. To apply for an extension of the thesis submission (case 1), within the legal duration of the course, fill out the form at the bottom of the page, also signed by the Supervisor and send it to the email dottorati@amm.units.it from your institutional account. The request must be evaluated and approved by the Faculty Board.

The request for extension involves the payment of stamp duty (16.00 euros). At the request of the interested party it can be discharged virtually, through the PagoPA system that the Doctoral Office will charge to your career in Esse3.

2. For justified scientific needs, upon indication of the supervisors, the Board of Professors may grant an extension of the attendance/duration of the Course and the extension of the duration of the scholarship for a period not exceeding 12 months, provided that the decision is ratified by the Department on whose budget the charges arising from the extension of the scholarship will be borne, after verification of financial sustainability.

The fellowship may be paid for a maximum duration of 12 months (full months that cannot be fractionated) to a doctoral student who meets the requirements. This entails enrollment for one year off-campus with payment of the contribution and fee stipulated in the Fee Notice.

For more details see the Regolamento in materia di Dottorato di Ricerca.
